If summer must be over, then at least we are ushering in a new season – award season! I love nothing more than curling up on a cozy Sunday evening and watching the pageant of celebs unfold. This year’s Emmy Awards were my first spent on west coast time, however, so rather than a cozy evening, it was more like a sun-filled afternoon wherein I lay in bed wearing sunglasses (my bedroom is stupidly bright) and eating chocolate covered marshmallows (I kid you not). I would include photo evidence if I felt comfortable with that being accessed via the internet for years to come.
The Emmys is one of my faves not only cause I’m a huge TV fan, but they always kick off awards season with a fresh batch of fall fashion. My (fashion) winners of the night were the following lovely ladies…and not just because I love their shows. Who were your picks from last night’s awards?

Allison Williams
Allison Williams (Girls) looked elegant, fresh and classic in this bright blue Ralph Lauren gown. Bonus points for her un-fussy hair and minimal accessories.

Kate Mara
I love the mix that Kate Mara (House of Cards) was rocking on the red carpet – conservative and revealing all at once, and…pockets!

Leslie Mann
Leslie Mann is consistently one of my favourites (not just because I want her to be my big sister/best friend/life coach). This beautiful, long gown effortlessly captures the black and white, sheer, and graphic trends of the season.

Laura Dern
Laura Dern (Enlightened) is definitely not a usual red carpet fashion darling, but I found this pretty pink beaded dress to be just perfect for the occasion. That cut out back, those t-shirt sleeves – just yes. Did you know she’s married to Ben Harper? True story.

Lena Dunham
This Prada gown worn by Lena Dunham (Girls) may be an acquired taste, but stick with me here. I didn’t love it at first (and still find it a bit full in the skirt), but the pattern and colour are so refreshing on a red carpet and, I think, perfect for fall. Also enjoying the black piping on the bodice.

Padma Lakshmi
The queen of the Food Network, Padma Lakshmi (Top Chef) killed it in this super simple two-piece situation.

Kiernan Shipka
It’s quite possible that Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) can do no wrong in the fashion department. And at just 13 years old, it’s also possible she may never have any embarrassing middle school photos to look back on one day (shame). This pretty little tea-length dress is fresh and floral and perfectly age appropriate.

Rose Byrne
I obviously have a thing for this whole crop-top, two-piece fashion era and Rose Byrne pulls it off beautifully here with clean lines and a criss-cross detail.

Thanks for not showing all skinny girls of a certain age! Missed the Emmys due to early work so I feel I just got a snapshot. Wonderful!!
